TRI-CITY AREA — Capac will send four grapplers, Imlay City two and Almont one on to the upcoming Division 3 individual wrestling state finals scheduled for March 4-6 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
They earned the right to compete there with top-four weight class finishes last Saturday at a regional hosted by Richmond High School.
Thomas Bolday headlined for Capac that day. Bolday reached the championship clash at 189 pounds where he earned an 8-3 win against Yale's Mike Tyranski.

Brian Kulman, Ed Niemi and Pat White also excelled for Capac, each registering a fourth. Kulman advanced to the 145-pound consolation final where he dropped a 9-8 verdict to Saginaw Swan Valley's Matt Beebe; Niemi gained admittance to the consolation final at 171 pounds where he fell by an 8-6 overtime outcome to Cass City's Josh Jensen; and White reached the heavyweight consolation final where he dropped a 13-2 verdict to Birch Run's Trevor Timmreck.
Sam Lyscas and Matt Myers paced Imlay City with thirds. The former advanced to the consolation final at 135 pounds where he picked up a 5-0 victory over Caro's Zach Rocheleau; and the latter gained admittance to the 160-pound consolation final where he registered a 5-3 triumph against Midland Bullock Creek's Cody McGinnis.
Derek Kopp, of Almont, rounded out the list of Tri-City placewinners with a third at 189 pounds. Kopp reached his weight division's consolation final where he notched a 6-2 win against Frankenmuth's Bart Didluch.
Almont's Corey Downing (145) and Josh Kunath (152) came within a victory of joining them at the state finals. They fashioned 1-2 marks.
Capac's Dan Cornish (135) and Chris Bly (215), Imlay City's Andrew Pawlaczyk (119) and Jake Newton (140) plus Almont's Dylan Creger (125) and Kevin Creger (150) also competed at the regional level. Each went 0-2 against the top-notch field.
