February 17, 2010 The last month has been a great month for the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce. We welcomed nine new members and eight renewing members. It is very exciting to see area businesses getting involved with the Chamber activities.
Our monthly meetings have had a great response. It has allowed the opportunity for businesses to come together to network and learn something new. With the monthly meetings offered at various times it allows all members the opportunity to attend. Many area businesses that are not members have also attended to see what the Chamber has to offer them and listen to the speakers.
This month we revived an old favorite here at the Chamber, "Business After Hours." Despite the weather we had a really good turnout of 29 people. However, due to the snowstorm our speaker's flight was cancelled and he did not make it in. To fill in, Sandy Iloncai from Fiducial Business Centers spoke about some exciting things they are offering free to Chamber members. Every fourth Tuesday of the month from 8 a.m.-noon Fiducial Business Center will offer its members free business consulting. They are located at 370 N. Cedar St.
Dan Purvis and Gene Rosati also spoke about the upcoming Imlay City Expo. It is sure to be another great show and continues to expand this year with many new vendors attending. The Imlay City Expo will take place at the Imlay City High School from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on April 24 and from noon-5 p.m. on April 25. The Expo will feature vendors showcasing their products from many different lines of business. Admission is $5 per person and free for ages 15 and under.
Blueberry Festival Fundraisers

Registration at the door begins at 9 p.m. or call Cedar Lanes at 724-6285 to reserve a spot.
The Blueberry Auction will take place on March 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Countryside Banquet Center. Tickets are available in advance at the Chamber office, the Learning Depot and Trendsetters Salon for $5 per person, which includes the auction and a spaghetti dinner. There are many great items available so come and place your bids. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Lunch N' Learn
On March 9 we will introduce a new event, the 'Lunch N' Learn.' In our efforts to provide networking opportunities at different times of the day, we have decided to try something new. The first event will be held at Countryside Banquet Center and will feature Dale Ellery presenting 'Tax Tips.' Sponsors for the event include Thumbworks, Lapeer Republican Party and Goodwill Industries. The cost is $8 per member and $10 for non-members. The price includes lunch. Make sure to RSVP in advance by calling 724-1361 or email Kim Marrone at firstname.lastname@example.org.

The kickoff took place on February 8 with a good turnout of new and returning teams. The 24 hour event is held annually at the Eastern Michigan Fairgrounds and is designed to spread awareness and raise funds for the American Cancer Society. At this time we have 28 teams signed up and are still looking for more. If you are interested in forming a team, please contact Yvonne Wilson at 810-614-4716.
