DRYDEN — Keep your eyes on the skies and your beans in your belly.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Seven Ponds Nature Center's Astronomy Club meets again at 6 p.m.

The meeting coincides with the club's annual "Chili Night," during which members bring along their very best recipes for all to sample.

John Lines, Astronomy Club coordinator, anticipates that participating chili chefs will offer a wide variety of palate-pleasing recipes.

"The chilies range from mild to 'over the top' and everywhere in between," says Lines, who likes to sample them all.

Along with the spicy cuisine and lively social interaction, attendees can take turns observing the heavens through telescopes.

All-night viewing

For those unable to attend the February meeting, the club meets again on Saturday, March 13 at 5 p.m., an earlier start time than usual.

"We'll start early and continue well into the early morning hours on Sunday," says Lines. "We'll be having a 'Messier Marathon,' which entails observing all night long in an attempt to view all 110 objects in the Messier Catalog."

Lines notes that the Messier Catalog is a collection of 110 other-worldly objects consisting of distant galaxies, nebulae and star clusters.

"If the weather cooperates, it will be quite an event," Lines promises.
