Explosion levels vacant home

January 20, 2010
IMLAY TWP. — Officials are investigating a suspicious explosion that leveled a vacant home on Petz Road Tuesday night, January 19.

Lapeer County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 8700 block of Petz Road around 10:13 p.m., says Sgt. Don Brady in a press release.

A two story residence, which police say has been vacant for 15-20 years, was blown apart by an explosion. Debris blocked most of Petz Road, Brady reports, making it impassable.

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's department and the Imlay City Fire Dept.

A state fire marshall will also investigate the scene.

Sgt. Dan Brady of the Lapeer County Sheriff's Dept. says a K-9 unit was also brought in to track footprints that led away from the residence.

Sheriff's deputies and the Imlay City Fire Department were assisted by the Imlay City Police Department, the City of Port Huron Police Department and Lapeer County EMS.

People with information regarding the incident are encouraged to call Sgt. Brady at 810-245-1440.
