New beginnings

January 20, 2010
Happy New Year! Let us hope that the new year brings to all of us an upturn in the economy. Many different sources are reporting 2009 as one of the worst on record for many industries. Supporting our local economy is more important than ever today. I am sure if we commit to use our local resources whenever possible, we will be successful in the future.

This month marked the renewal of "Good Morning Imlay City." On January 13, 39 people attended our first event at Tietz Restaurant. The event was sponsored by Village Printing Inc. and A Creative Solution. I thank them for their support.

City Manager Amy Planck presented the "State of the Community." It was very informative. We also recognized members Al Parsch Oil & Propane Company for 35 years of business and the Imlay City Lions Club for 60 years of Service in the community. They are both extraordinary accomplishments. I was very pleased with the number of attendees and look forward to next month's Business After Hours event.

Mark your calenders for our first Business After Hours Event of 2010. Chick Hilliker from Fiducial Business Center will be here to present "How To Send Out My Marketing Message" on Wed., Feb.10. This event will be held at City Hall, 150 N. Main from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. This event is for members only. There is no charge to members, but you must RSVP in advance to the chamber office. Fiducial Business Center and the Imlay City Expo will be our sponsors and provide us with some appetizers and refreshments. It is a great way to unwind, network and maybe learn a little something new.

Blueberry Festival Fundraisers

It is hard to believe that it is that time of year again. The Blueberry Committee is working hard to plan for this year's 30th annual Blueberry Festival. This free festival brings in thousands of visitors to Imlay City. To provide the festival it is crucial to hold fundraisers to help pay for entertainment, activities, fireworks, etc. The auction this year will take place March 20, 5:30 p.m. at Countryside Banquet Center. This year we will be having a spaghetti dinner with the auction. Tickets are $5 and available for purchase in advance by calling the Chamber office at 810-724-1361. Donations for the auction will also be accepted through the office as well.

A bowling fundraiser at Cedar Lanes for the Blueberry Festival is planned for February 20 at 9 p.m. It will be moonlight doubles with 9 pin no-tap. The cost is $10 per person and registration at the door begins at 9 p.m. If you prefer to register ahead of time call Cedar Lanes at 810-724-6285.

Membership Drive

Announcing the 2010 Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Drive! We have decided to launch a membership drive starting immediately and ending on Feb. 28, 2010. It is a way to help our current members receive a credit toward their next renewal dues while helping our chamber grow. Chamber members that recruit new members will be able to receive a credit toward their next year's renewal dues for each new member they sign up. We hope this plan will help current members save a little money on their dues by contributing to the growth of the Imlay City Area Chamber of Commerce.
