Final quarter lifts Spartan girls' to conference win over Almont

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City turned back host Almont, 47-35, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity girls' basketball game last Friday night.

With the result, Imlay City goes to 5-3 and 2-1. Almont falls to 4-4 and 2-1.

In Friday's game, Imlay City jumped out to a 19-14 advantage after one quarter was done.

The next eight-minute stretch saw Imlay City collect 10 points, while Almont amassed nine.

That made it 29-23, Imlay City, at the halftime break.

When play resumed, Almont bounced back with a 6-5 third quarter advantage.

That trimmed Almont's deficit to 34-29 at the 24-minute mark.

Imlay City then outscored Almont 13-6 the rest of the way, assuring themselves of a 47-35 win at night's end.

Anne Pawlaczyk (18 points, with two triples) led Imlay City. She was backed by Millie Velez (14 points), Mandy Lacertosa and Morgan Lee (five, including a trifecta, each), Taelor Webb

(three) and Jaclyn Van Dyk (two).

Nikki Heim (14 points, featuring a trey) paced Almont. Their remaining points went to Nicole Gibson and Lindsay Ladzinski (six apiece), Brittany Schmalzel (four), Dani Reid and Keeley Creger (two each) plus Tasha Evans (one).
