January 13, 2010 CAPAC — Capac averted an upset bid, escaping with a 48-46 win at host Yale's expense in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball meeting last Friday night.
With the result, Capac moves to 5-1 and 2-0. Yale drops to 2-4 and 0-2.
In Friday's meeting, Capac and Yale ended the opening quarter with 10 points each.
Quarter number two saw Capac accumulate 17 points and Yale manage 12.
That staked Capac to a 27-22 cushion at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Yale fought back with a 12-10 third quarter advantage.
That trimmed Yale's deficit to 37-34 at the 24-minute mark.
Yale then followed it up with a 12-11 advantage during the last eight minutes of action, only to drop a narrow 48-46 verdict at night's end.
Anthony Closurdo (13 points, featuring three treys) paced Capac that evening. Josh Harvey (12 points) and Matt Burgess (10) hit for double figure outputs as well. Mitchell Parks (eight points, with one triple), Mike Burgess (five, including a trifecta) supported their performances.
Chance Smeznik led Yale with 14 points. Brandon Goeschel added 12 points to the Bulldogs' cause.
