Northwest outlasts Almont in OT, 57-54

ALMONT — The Almont varsity boys' basketball team dropped a 57-54 overtime verdict to host Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest in a non-conference cliffhanger last Thursday night.

With the decision, Almont slips to 0-2 overall.

In Thursday's game, Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest built a 16-5 advantage after one quarter was complete and widened the gap to 26-14 at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Almont bounced back with a 10-7 third quarter advantage.

That trimmed Almont's deficit to 33-24 at the 24-minute mark.

The next eight-minute stretch saw Almont accumulate 23 points, while allowing Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest 14.

That made it a 47-47 contest, and they headed into overtime.

It was there Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest netted 10 points and Almont managed seven, leaving the former with a 57-54 victory at night's end.

For Almont, Ben McNally (26 points, including a trifecta) and Brett McDonald (16) proved their toughest players to stop. The Raiders also had Cody Gelinski and Dillon Melly (four points apiece), Aaron May (three) and Andrew McNally (one) connect.

McDonald and Ben McNally tacked on Almont's top rebounding totals. They pulled down 15 and nine missed shots, respectively.
