ALMONT — Several firefighting units responded around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17 to a house fire on West Van Dyke (M-53), just south of the Yoder Farm Market.

When firefighters from Almont and Dryden townships arrived at the scene, they found smoke cascading from the south side of the older farm home, near the area of the chimney.

Fire Chief Paul Wayco said the homeowner was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. Damage was minor and concentrated in an area around a wood stove.

Almont police also responded to the incident for the purpose of maintaining traffic control along M-53. Lapeer County EMS were on scene as well.
