CAPAC — Week in and week out the Capac Chiefs have made it a habit of proving their detractors wrong.
This Friday Tom Manney's ballclub will get the opportunity to quiet their critics again when Capac (7-3) travels to Madison Heights Madison (10-0) for a Division 5, Region 4, District 2 championship football game.
The contest is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
Capac enters the clash coming off an 3-0 triumph against visiting Harper Woods Chandler Park, while Madison Heights Madison cruised to a 47-0 homefield win over Detroit University Prep.
Neither side figures this week's contest to be as easy.
The fact that not too many around, outside of Capac that is, are giving the Chiefs a good chance of hoisting the district championship trophy at night's end should provide the BWAC school with plenty of motivation once kickoff rolls around. And that suits Manney just fine.
"Ever since we started the season 1-3 it has been a do or die situation for us," Manney observed. "And, it still is," he emphasized.
"I honestly believe that if we play our best football we can beat Madison Heights Madison. "We know we will have to step it up if we are to get the job done," he noted.
The winner of this Friday's contest meets the survivor of a game between Jackson Lumen Christi (9-1) and Stockbridge (9-1).
That meeting, the regional final, will unfold November 13th or 14th at the site of the highest ranked team (in terms of playoff points) earned.
