November 04, 2009 It's been an exciting time for area sports fans with a number of noteworthy accomplishments by our high school teams.
The Imlay City boys' soccer team gave fans a thrilling season with wins all the way through regional competition. Hard work paid off for Coach Eric Schwalbe and the team members who played their hearts out to make it to regional finals. We're proud of their accomplishment.
In Capac, the Chiefs are showing how mighty they are by advancing in playoff competition.
Coach Tom Manney says the team committed themselves early on to giving their all, and that commitment is obvious. Fans are still rooting for the Chiefs, who will take on undefeated Madison Heights Madison for a Division 5, Region 4, District 2 championship game. This game promises to be a tough match but Manney and his team believe they can win. We do too.
Raider Country in Almont is filled with excitement too, as both the girls' and boys' cross country teams offer fans ultra-exciting seasons. Both teams have earned spots in the Division 3 state finals at Michigan International Speedway this weekend. Coach Rick Filar says both teams never lost sight of the challenges they faced, but were committed to coming out on top. We wish them continued success.
To all the coaches and players who worked hard and gave area fans such exciting seasons, great work! We join with the community in a resounding 'congratulations!'
