IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City boys' soccer team captured their first-ever top district finish, notching a 4-0 victory over host Armada in a Division 3 championship game contested under rainy conditions last Friday afternoon.
With the result, Imlay City (18-3-1) advances to a Wednesday, October 28 regional semifinal clash at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep High School. There they will square off versus Grosse Ile in a matchup scheduled for 5 p.m. Armada sees an 11-6-1 season wind down.
"It is a great feeling to win a district championship," Imlay City Coach Eric Schwalbe said. "The kids worked hard from the opening day of practice and it paid off today," he noted.
"We won a couple of close games (2-1 over Almont in a district opener on Monday and 1-0 against Memphis on Thursday) to get in this position. Even though we had a 3-0 lead at halftime today we knew the outcome wasn't wrapped up. We came out and outscored Armada 1-0 the rest of the way to clinch the win."
