ALMONT — The Almont varsity football team (5-2, 4-2) handed host Armada (2-5, 1-5) a 15-6 setback in Blue Water Area Conference action last Friday night.

"It was a big win for us tonight," Almont Coach Jeremy Ferman said. "This was the first time all season we were able to put four good quarters together on the road," he emphasized.

In Friday's contest, Almont jumped out to a 9-0 advantage after one quarter was complete.

The middle two quarters saw neither side change the scoreboard count.

Almont and Armada then struck for six points apiece during the last 12 minutes of action, leaving the former with a 15-6 win to celebrate at night's end.

The victorious Almont side produced their 15-point total thanks to a Josh Kunath 19-yard touchdown run; a Ben McNally 32-yard field goal; and an Addam Wierbicki 47-yard touchdown run.

Armada managed their six-point output aided by a Jake Moegle to Clint Hyatt four-yard touchdown pass collaboration.

For the night, Tom Nowicki wound up zero of two for no yards as Almont's quarterback. He threw no interceptions along the way.

The Almont ground attack finished with 257 yards on 42 totes.

Individually, Wierbicki (16 rushes for 149 yards) led Almont. He was backed by Erik O'Connor (57 yards on seven totes), Kunath (eight rushes for 40 yards) and Garrett Savage (40 yards on nine totes). The remaining four Raider rushes netted a combined four-yard loss.

O'Connor paced the Almont defense, registering seven solo stops. Jake Ferrell and Nick Ouillette (six solos, including a quarterback sack each) made their presence felt as well.

The Almont defense also supplied one takeaway. Aaron May (a fumble recovery) notched that.

Almont returns to action this Friday when they entertain Blue Water Area Conference rival Capac. That contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
