IMLAY CITY — As the harvest season draws to a close, so too does the weekly Farmers Market, held on Thursdays downtown.

The market's final day is Thursday, Oct. 15, concluding another successful year for event organizers.

The Farmers Market is sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority, aided by the assistance of market administrator Denise Becker.

DDA Director Nancy Jean Brinker acknowledged the loyal participation of this year's vendors, whose consistency lent to the market's success.

"The cool summer did delay the crops," Brinker noted, "but our vegetable vendors were consistently in contact, so we knew when they were going to be able to come."

Not only were the vendors consistent by their presence, they were mutually cooperative and helpful to one another, Brinker added.

"I think our vendors are second to none," she said. "They helped each other out if they were busy and Denise (Becker) did an outstanding job as administrator, as she has in the past."

Brinker said discussion is already taking place about how to improve the market next year.

"There are not any big changes expected for next season," she said, "though we are researching making some minor changes to our vendor information.

"Denise and I really want to get feedback to ensure that our vendors consistently come back to us, and that they continue to support downtown Imlay City."

For more information or to become a vendor in 2010, contact Nancy Jean Brinker at the Imlay City Hall at 810-724-2135.
