September 09, 2009 IMLAY CITY — A 31-year-old Capac woman was seriously injured late Tuesday, Sept. 8 in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Capac Rd. (M-21) and Van Dyke (M-53).
Police Chief John Stano reported that Sherry Baird was eastbound on M-21 at around 11:34 p.m., when she pulled into the path of a southbound Kenworth semi-tractor trailer, driven by Lee Dangelo, 36, of Plymouth.
Stano said a preliminary investigation suggests that Baird may have driven through a flashing red light at the intersection. Construction has been ongoing along the section of roadway for several weeks.
Police report that Baird's 2001 Ford Taurus was struck broadside in the driver-side door and was seriously injured.
Baird was transferred to Hurley Hospital in Flint by Lapeer County EMS, where her condition was reported to be improving, Stano said Wednesday morning.
The accident remains under investigation, Stano added, noting there is no evidence that alcohol contributed to the crash.
