September 02, 2009 While we're encouraging our students to tackle the new school year with gusto this year it's important to put good hygiene at the top of the list.
While students pass in their homework assignments, they'll also have the potential to pass along the H1N1 flu. Though experts say H1N1 is milder than other forms of the flu, it's creating an area of concern because it has a propensity to quickly spread. A vaccine specific to H1N1 prevention won't be available for another month, so it's important to take precautions to keep a healthy household.
Parents and co-workers can help prevent H1N1 from getting out of control in a relatively simple way: frequent and vigorous hand washing and/or frequent use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers. It's the easiest and most effective way to prevent illness of all kinds.
If you or your child do become ill, stay at home. Yes, times are tough but we encourage families and employers to consider the 'ounce of prevention' theory for this public health issue.
It's an exciting time of year for the community. A little common sense and a lot of soap and water can assure it's a healthy and happy time, too.
