CAPAC — The Capac varsity football team wound up on the losing side of a 33-7 verdict to host Fowlerville in a non-league confrontation last Friday night.

With the decision, Fowlerville ups its mark to 1-0 this season. Capac drops to 0-1 overall.

"We were within a touchdown at the half," Capac Coach Tom Manney said. "Their depth became a factor during the last two quarters and allowed them to put the game out of reach," he noted.

In Friday's confrontation, Fowlerville built a 7-0 advantage after one quarter was complete.

Fowlerville and Capac then put up seven points each during the second quarter, leaving the former with a 14-7 advantage at the halftime break.

When play resumed, Fowlerville struck with a 6-0 third quarter edge.

That raised Fowlerville's lead to 20-7 at the 36-minute mark.

Fowlerville then outscored Capac 13-0 the rest of the way, wrapping up a 33-7 win.

An Austin Morgan to Anthony Closurdo 14-yard touchdown pass (followed by a successful extra-point kick courtesy of Joshua Kaiser) accounted for Capac's seven-point output.

On the night, Austin Morgan completed four of 11

pass plays for 83 yards as Capac's quarterback. He threw two interceptions en route to those numbers.

His successful tosses went to three different targets. Their ranks consisted of Josh Harvey (two receptions for 56 yards), Closurdo (one catch for 14 yards) and James Morgan (one reception for 13 yards).

The Capac ground attack added 82 yards on 21 totes.

Individually, Capac was led by James Morgan (10 rushes for 48 yards). Closurdo (28 yards on seven totes) and Cody Rosseau (two rushes for six yards) supported his performance.

Thomas Bolday (10 solos and five assists), Mike Burgess (seven solos and three assists) and Nick Osborn (eight solos and two assists) paced Capac's defense. Josh Tucker (four solos and three assists), Eddie Niemi (four solos and two assists) and Dakota Perry (three solos and two assists) exhibited a nose for the football as well.

The Capac defense also registered one takeaway. Burgess (a fumble recovery) contributed that.

Capac will look to even their overall mark at 1-1 this Thursday when it travels to Cros-Lex. The Blue Water Area Conference matchup lists a 7 p.m. starting time.
