Imlay City splits matches at its season-opening tourney

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity volleyball team went 2-2 last Saturday at an invitational it hosted.

Imlay City started their tournament run with a 14-25, 21-25 pool play setback to Utica Eisenhower. That was followed by a 25-14, 25-20 win against Capac; a 25-23, 25-21 victory over Flint Powers; and a 21-25, 20-25 loss to Lutheran North.

Bailey Schaller collected 37 service points and Kelsey Bosch supplied 33 to lead Imlay City that day. The Spartans also received service points courtesy of Autumn Chambers (32), Ashley Dockham (21), Alyssa Dawson (17), Kelly Pollard (five) and Millie Velez (two).

Bosch handled the bulk of Imlay City's playmaking responsibilities. She was credited with 47 assists.

Chambers (19 kills) and Velez (14) posted Imlay City's top hitting credentials. Marcella Alu and Jaclyn Jerzewski (eight kills apiece) along with Taelor Webb (seven) supported their performances.

Schaller paced the Imlay City defense, registering 12 digs. Their remaining digs went to Dawson (11), Bosch (10), Pollard (four), Alivia Hibbler and Dockham (three each) plus Webb and Chambers (two apiece).

Webb and Alu (two each) furnished the highest Imlay City solo block totals. Bosch, Dockham and Velez added one block each to the Spartans' cause.
