Sawicki is poised to repeat past success at Cornerstone

August 12, 2009
CAPAC — Melissa Sawicki, a 2008 graduate of Capac High School, will start her sophomore season with the Cornerstone University women's cross country team just a few weeks from now.

As a freshman, Sawicki proved an impact performer at the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference school. There she furnished her squad's fourth quickest 5K time (20:01) and fourth swiftest 6K clocking (24:16).

Her time over the 6K distance represented a freshman school record.

Sawicki's running resume in her debut campaign included an eighth at the Vanderbilt Invitational hosted by Hope College; a 10th at the Manchester Invitational; a 15th at the Adrian College-based Great Lakes Long Course Championships; a 57th at the Midwest Collegiate Open in Kenosha, Wisconsin; plus a 69th at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College.

Cornerstone University opens its season September 5 at the Hope Invitational. That meet is slated to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
