Sawicki sets pace at Bologna 5K Race


Callewaert second fastest among Tri-City Area athletes

TRI-CITY AREA — Melissa Sawicki, a 2008 graduate of Capac High School, notched a 19:31 clocking en route to a first among Female 15-19 age group entries and overall last Saturday at the Bologna Festival 5K Run in Yale.

Danielle Fowler, the 30-34 age division champion, was the race runnerup. She finished 13 seconds off the pace.

Sawicki's closest pursuer in her age group was Port Huron's Katrina Oberski. It took her 20:25 to cover the territory.

Ashley Callewaert, of Capac, furnished the second swiftest clocking among the Tri-City Area contingent on hand.

Competing in the Female 15-19 age group, Callewaert ranked seventh with a time of 24:16.

Laurie Kudrea paced a pair of Capac High School grauates that tested their endurance prowess in the 30-34 age group. Kudrea pulled up fifth, thanks to a 25:48 clocking.

Mary Jo Cooley posted a 27:26 time, good for eighth in the division.

Sue Mott, of Dryden, was the Female 55-59 age group pacesetter. Mott required 27:53 to cover the territory.

Michelle Bohland, a Capac High School graduate, rounded out the list of Tri-City Area competitors on hand.

Competing in the Female 35-39 age group, Bohland pulled up ninth with a time of 33:06.
