Lucky Fox Tourney gets large turnout
Local tennis players do well at yearly benefit event

July 22, 2009ALMONT — Almont earned five titles and claimed two seconds at the Fourth Annual Lucky Fox Open Tennis Tournament this past weekend.
The three-day event, which ran Friday through Sunday, attracted a field numbered at 120 entries for the second straight year.
The weather was a bit more cooperative than it was a year ago when we were hampered by rain throughout," event organizer Nathan Immekus said. "This time around we had a few rain delays but overall it wasn't that bad," he emphasized.
"I was pleased with the turnout we had. I would like to thank the players who came out and those who helped running the event for making it a success."
Here is a flight by flight recap of how the tournament went:
Open Doubles- The Almont combination of Dave Grant and Nathan Immekus fell by a 3-6, 0-6 count to the team of Chris Scroggs and Thomas Bond.
Boys' 18 U Doubles- The Romeo team of Rumschlag and Vinckier earned a championship win against Almont's Alex Schubert and Michelle Fox.
Boys 14 U Doubles- The Almont combination of Domenic Curtis and Mitchel Bulger generated a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 title match win against Romeo's Alex Vedolich and Jake Petz.

Girls' 18 U Doubles- The team of Imlay City's Chaylyn Henderson and Almont's Jessica Dayton earned a default championship match win against the Romeo team of Winarski and O'Dell.
Boys 18 U Singles- Matt Bulger, of Almont, took flight honors with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7) triumph against Armada's Tyler Kinch.
Boys 16 U Singles- Austen Matheney, of Armada, claimed the title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fraser's Benjamin Lamers.
Boys' 14 U Singles- Alex Vedolich, of Romeo, took flight honors with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Armada's Ryan Carlson.
Women's Open Singles- Rachel Fox, of Almont, claimed flight honors.
Girls' 18 U Singles- Michelle Fox, of Almont, won the title on the strength of a 6-4, 6-2 win against Romeo's Alyssa Vinckier.
