New Goodwill store set to open July 16
Imlay City store now serves as hub for Goodwill Industry's east region
July 15, 2009IMLAY CITY — It's time to pass along some good news.
On Thursday, July 16, Goodwill Industries opens its new facility in the Belle Valley Plaza, which should be good news for shoppers seeking good deals on a shoestring budget.
The 25,000-square-foot store (formerly the Farmer Jack grocery store) is located at the north end of the Plaza at the northwest corner of Van Dyke and M-21.
Angela Thompson, Goodwill's vice president of Retail Operations, said the new building offers more sales space, greater storage capacity and an easier layout for customers and staff.
And because of its larger and more customer-friendly configuration, Thompson said the Imlay City store will now serve as a regional hub for the company.
"We can get a lot more product in the store now," said Thompson. "Along with wider aisles and better customer access, we're able to create a more pleasant shopping experience for our customers.

"We are very happy about our new building and looking forward to a continued presence in the Imlay City community," Thompson added.
In conjunction with the move, Goodwill decided to create a safer and more inviting environment for customers and staff by upgrading the Plaza's parking lot.
To celebrate the store's opening, a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, co-hosted by the Imlay Area City Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Development Authority.
"We're all excited about this and looking forward to serving our regular clientele and new customers," said Imlay City store manager Cindy Bannon. "The new store is neat and well organized and it's a very nice place to shop."
To accommodate the store's larger size and meet the needs of an expected increase in shoppers, Goodwill has added five new employees at the Imlay City location. The store will now employ 18 full- and part-time employees, Bannon said.
She added that the new store features newly-acquired inventory, including men's, women's and children's clothing, housewares, electronics, furniture, glassware and much more.
Store hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.
