ALMONT — Lauren Bone, a 2009 graduate of Almont High School, didn't take long to make an impact with the St. Francis College women's golf team.
She drove that well-taken point with a medalist round of 85 over 18 holes during a Midwest College Golf Tour Tournament held at Broken Arrow Golf Club in Lockport, Illinois on Monday, June 22.
The MWCGT is held at courses in the Chicago for college level players.
"Her new coach at St. Francis, Tom O'Connor, wanted her to start playing in the Chicago area tournaments to get acquainted with her new teammates, the level of competition and the length of courses," Mark Bone, her father, said. "Broken Arrow is St. Francis's women's home course.
"The course played 6,060 yards for the tournament. It was 90-plus degrees and 90 percent humidity. Lauren was trailing by two after nine holes but ended up winning by two with an 85. I think the heat was a factor. She is looking forward to competing in more tournaments this summer so that she will be ready when the college season arrives."
