ALMONT — The Almont boys' track team was held scoreless at the Division 3 state finals last Saturday at the Comstock Park High School.

Albion (61.5 points) earned the distinction of team champion at meet's end. They were followed by Allendale and Kent City (43 points apiece), Vermontville Maple Valley (42), Michigan Center (32), Sanford Meridian (18), Bangor and Flint Beecher (16 each), Stanton Central Montcalm (15), Detroit Communication Media Arts (13), Hopkins, Jackson Lumen Christi and Benzie Central (12 apiece), Grand Rapids West Catholic, Freeland and Kingsley (11 each), Bronson, Marlette, Grandville Calvin Christian, Madison Heights Madison, Carrollton, Reese and Saginaw Swan Valley (10 apiece), Clare, Portland and Saginaw Valley Lutheran (nine each), Livonia Clarencville and Gladwin (eight-and-a-half apiece), Harrison, Millington, New Haven, Wyoming Lee, Mason County Central, Leslie, Suttons Bay, Constantine and Vassar (eight each), Cass City, Hillsdale and Standish-Sterling (seven apiece), Union City (six-and-a-half), Durand and Perry (six each), Grass Lake, Charlevoix, Lake Fenton, Brooklyn Columbia Central, Madison Heights Bishop Foley and Manistee (five apiece), Frankenmuth, Wyoming Godwin Heights, Reed City, Ithaca and Chesaning (four each), Birch Run and Blissfield (three apiece), Laingsburg, Midland Bullock Creek and Whitmore Lake (two each) along with Napoleon, Beaverton, Kalkaska, Harper Woods, Buchanan, Kalamazoo Hackett and Saginaw Nouvel (one apiece).

Ben Strouse supplied the best Almont performances that day. He generated a shot put toss of 48 feet 1 1/2 inches and a uncorked discus toss encompassing 136 feet 1 inch of territory, leaving him about 10th in both events according to Raider Coach Chuck Bristol.

Dylan Creger turned in one of his better 3200-meter run performances of the 2009 campaign. Creger stopped the watch at 10:04, good enough for 19th place.

An Almont 3200-meter relay consisting of Don Tobias, Cody Corbin, Eric Ambrosiewicz and Josh Klebba also performed well that day. Their clocking of 8:39 was their swiftest this spring.
