Dryden boys' track notches share of a seventh at states

DRYDEN — The Dryden boys' track team generated an output of 22 points en route to a two-way tie for seventh last Saturday at the Division 4 state finals hosted by Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern High School.

When the final scores were announced, Potterville's 64-point total proved tops. They were followed by Muskegon Catholic Central (34 points), Concord (30), Sand Creek (27), Reading (22.5), Dryden and Whittemore Prescott (22 each), Auburn Hills Oakland Christian (21), Hillsdale Academy (20), White Pigeon (19), Eau Claire (16), Mayville and Saugatuck (14 apiece), Bellaire, Springport, Centreville and Marcellus (13 each), Ubly (12.5), Bath and McBain Northern Michigan Christian (11 apiece), Saranac, Big Rapids Crossroads and Manton (10 each), Harbor Springs, Traverse City St. Francis, Pittsford, Unionville Sebewaing Area , Dansville and Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart (nine apiece), Webberville, Kingston and Beal City (eight each), Sterling Heights Parkway Christian and Morenci (seven apiece), Mendon, Ravenna, Bellevue, Hesperia, Ellsworth, McBain and Gaylord St. Mary (six each), Waldron and Adrian Lenawee Christian (five apiece), Detroit Urban Lutheran, Plymouth Christian Academy, Blanchard Montabella, White Cloud, Lawton, Lutheran Westland and Genesee (four each), Frankfort and Burton Atherton (three apiece), Fowler (two) along with Litchfield, Homer, Posen and Onekama (one each).

Chad Butler, pole vault, 13 feet 6 inches; led Dryden with a second that day.

For his performance, Butler earned All-State accolades (given to the top-eight finishers in each event).

An 800-meter relay lineup consisting of Matt Lynch, Eric Tietz, Douglas Ladner and Butler set a school record of 1:34.07 on their way to a fourth.

Ladner had the next best Dryden showing. His 300-meter hurdle clocking of 40.68 seconds paid off with a fifth.

Butler, long jump, 20 feet 3 3/4 inches; contributed a sixth to Dryden's cause.

Al Clark, shot put, 47 feet 6 1/2 inches; rounded out the list of Dryden placewinners with a seventh.
