TRI-CITY AREA — Josh Messner shot an 87 over 18 holes, leading the Capac golf team to a sixth-place showing at a Division 3 district it hosted last Thursday.
When the final scores were added up, Lutheran North's 325 output set the pace. They were followed by Detroit Country Day (334), Flint Powers (338), Richmond (341), Lake Fenton (358), Capac (364), Almont (370), Imlay City (373), Armada (381) and Clawson (387).
The top-six teams, plus the lowest six scores not on any of those squads, advance to regional action this Thursday at The Fortress Golf Course in Frankenmuth.
Jordan Heiden (90) supplied the next lowest Capac round. The Chiefs also counted Colton Randall's 92 and Mike Vollen's 95.
Jake McCarthy (85) and Brett McDonald (88) paced Almont with regional-qualifying performances. They were backed by Lauren Bone (96) and Adam Bacheller (99).
Drew Schultz supplied the top Imlay City showing, carding an 88 over 18 holes. His effort proved good enough to qualify for the upcoming regionals individually. The Spartans also counted Brenan Hopkins' 92, Cody Campbell's 94 and Darren Saunders' 99.
