ALMONT — Organizers of the Almont Downtown Development Authority's "2009 Spring Fling" are anticipating a great response to the second annual event.
Spring Fling takes place May 14-16, and features a variety of activities to celebrate the arrival of the season.
This year's event combines the village's ever-popular community-wide garage sale, "Garage Sale Frenzy," with a second helping of "A Taste of Almont," a three-day food promotion that features special food offerings at downtown eateries; all for the price of a single $10 ticket.
Visitors check out wide variety of colorful purses and handbags offered by Spring Fling vendor during last year’s event in Almont.
Participating eateries include: Almont Pastry & Donut Shop, Buccilli's Cakes, Charlie Brown's, Huddle Bar & Grill, Hungry Howie's, Maria's Place Restaurant, Raiders Country Coney Island, Roza's Pizza and The Mill & Brewhouse.
But there's more than just great cuisine and garage sale bargains to be had at the 2009 Spring Fling.
The weekend also features the grand reopening of the Almont Farmers Market on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Other scheduled activities include a book sale at the Henry Stephens Memorial Library; a Rummage Sale sponsored by the Almont Lions and Lionesses; downtown sidewalk sales; an Open House at the Almont Historical Museum from 10 a.m-3 p.m. Saturday; and the Almont American Legion Auxiliary's "Chalk Around the Fountain" contest for middle school and high school artists, Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Fountain Park.
"We just hope a lot of people take the opportunity to get out and enjoy all the scheduled activities," said DDA Director Nancy Boxey. "This is a chance to celebrate the spring season, while supporting our neighbors and local businesses. Now all we need is some good weather."
