CAPAC — The Capac varsity softball team earned what is believed to be their first win against Richmond in at least 20 years, accomplishing the feat with a favorable 11-7 verdict in game two of a Blue Water Area Conference doubleheader it hosted last Thursday.

"Our girls played very hard and very smart," Capac Coach Tom Mailloux said. "This was a team goal of ours to start the season and we got it done by working hard every day," he noted.

"Richmond has been off for a couple days so we thought they might be a little rusty. They gave us some extra outs and we took advantage of them."

Taylor Smith (three singles and one RBI), Katelyn Kain (three singles), Darcie Ball (three singles), Katie Mailloux (a single, a triple and four RBI) and Laura Pewinski (two singles) proved Capac's offensive headliners. They were backed by Jamie Green (a single and three RBI), Charlotte Clark and Chelsea Botwin (a single apiece) along with Abby Aguinaga (three RBI).

Green was Capac's pitcher of record. She scattered 11 hits and struck out one en route.

In the opener, Richmond left the field with a 9-0 triumph against Capac to their credit.

Ashley Mousseau (a single and a double) and Ball (a pair of singles) paced Capac's offensive attack. Michelle Kotermanski and Kain added one single each to the Chiefs' cause.
