Imlay City stops Richmond, 6-2

IMLAY CITY — Imlay City picked up a 6-2 road victory over Richmond in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity baseball matchup last Friday afternoon.

With the final, Imlay City raises its mark to 10-3 and 3-1. Richmond watches their record slip to 10-4, including a 4-1 Blue Water Area Conference showing thus far.

In Friday's matchup, Imlay City and Richmond ended the opening inning with two runs each.

That was followed by a scoreless second inning.

Innings three and four would see Imlay City outscore Richmond by identical 2-0 counts.

That made it 6-2, Imlay City, at the time.

Neither side would reach the scoring column the rest of the way, leaving Imlay City with a win to celebrate when the final out was registered.

Blaine Goertler went the distance as Imlay City's pitcher. Goertler allowed five hits and struck out five over the seven-inning distance.

In addition to his pitching prowess, Goertler aided his cause with a pair of doubles. Adam Van Dyk (a pair of RBI-singles), Eric Harbin (a a pair of singles), Devon Wiegers (a double and two RBI) and Kevin Ahrens (a sacrifice fly and one RBI) supported his plate performance.
