IMLAY CITY — It may be tough to beat the success of last year's first-ever Eastern Michigan Auto Fest at the Imlay City Fairgrounds.

But organizers are primed for another throng of classic car and truck enthusiasts when Saturday's 2nd Annual Auto Fest rolls into town.

Sponsored by Imlay City Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, the event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, with the presentation of awards at 3 p.m.

The show includes a classic car auction at 11 a.m., a swap meet, manufacturer's midway, craft show, children's activities, a car show (show registration ends at 10 a.m.), food vendors, entertainment, a picnic area, pancake breakfast and on-site overnight camping.

Eastern Michigan Fair Manager Ian Kempf reminds attendees that admission is free, with only a $5 per-car parking fee required.

"Last year surpassed all of our expectations and we're looking for another real big show," says Kempf. "With the level of pre-registration we've seen, we think this year is shaping up to be one of the top draws in Imlay City."

Kempf says the event will run rain or shine and is designed to appeal to people of all ages.

"This is an event where families can load up the car, come out and have a great time," says Kempf. "And this is not only for car buffs. There's something for a whole family.

"There are going to be some absolutely gorgeous classic cars out here," Kempf says. "The food concessions, auctions, swap meets and other activities will be a lot of fun for everybody. Plus, we've got Rockin' Ron Leigh as our D.J., playing all the favorites from the cruising era."

Kempf notes that based on pre-registration information, many more classic cars and trucks are coming from outside Lapeer County.

"We're getting calls from people as far away as Ohio, " he says, "with a large number of them coming from the Detroit Metropolitan area, as well as locally."
