IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City varsity baseball team swept visiting North Branch, 9-0 and 7-2 in a non-league doubleheader last Thursday.
With the decisions, Imlay City evens its mark at 2-2 overall.
In the opener, Blaine Goertler (a single and a home run) and Kevin Ahrens (a pair of singles) proved Imlay City's offensive headliners. They were backed by Adam Van Dyk and Kyle Maliszewski (a single and one RBI apiece).
Goertler was the winning Imlay City pitcher. He allowed one hit and struck out 12 over the seven-inning distance.
In the second game, Goertler (two singles, a double and two runs scored) paced Imlay City's offensive attack. Ryan Pitt (a homer and two RBI), Nathan Quintana (a double) plus Kyle Maliszewski (a single and three stolen bases) supported his performance.
Devon Wiegers (four hits, 10 strikeouts and two runs allowed over 4 1/3 innings) and Pitt (no hits and five strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings) shared the pitching responsibilities for Imlay City.
