April 08, 2009 I'm a bit confused these days, which I'm certain is no surprise to any of my readers. But really, what's up with this weather?
By all accounts we should be thinking of all things spring. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it 62 degrees this past Thursday? By Monday morning we were in the midst of blizzard conditions.
I should be thinking of tuning the lawn mower, not battling bone chilling icy winds and snowdrifts.
I checked the calendar to make sure it was April 7th, yes, evidently Mother Nature had a momentary lapse of memory. I shouldn't be surprised though, this isn't the first time she has played tricks on us, is it?
I looked through back issues of the Times, as I do most every Monday morning. I noticed a year ago I wrote a column titled "The rites of spring," a column revolving around one of the staff members seeing a song bird outside the office window. You know, the typical drool about spring in the air and all that. The cardinal I saw land on the snow blanketed bushes this morning looked as if it was freezing its tail feathers off!
So a few more inches of snow fell over the last couple of days, forcing us to walk in slush. I think it's safe to say, "you have to love Michigan to live here."
With all the experts predicting global warming, where I'm sitting I'm more concerned about the return of an ICE AGE!
