April 01, 2009 CAPAC — Capac wound up one run short when the final scores were added up, dropping a 9-8 verdict to visiting non-league varsity softball counterpart Brown City on Tuesday, March 24.
With the final, Brown City improves to 1-0 overall. Capac slips to 0-1 this season.
In Tuesday's encounter, Capac jumped out to a 5-1 advantage after one inning was complete.
The next inning saw Brown City generate two runs, while allowing Capac none.
That left Capac holding a 5-3 edge at the time.
Innings three and four saw Brown City outscore Capac by a combined 5-2 count.
That staked Brown City to an 8-7 advantage at the time.
The next two innings would see neither side tally any runs.
Brown City then collected one run during the top half of the seventh inning, increasing its cushion to 9-7.
The bottom half of the seven inning would see Capac counter with one run, only to drop a 9-8 verdict.
Laura Pewinski (a single, a double and a triple) and Katelyn Kain (three singles) proved Capac's top offensive threats. Darcie Ball and Chelsea Botwin (two singles apiece) made their presence felt as well. The Chiefs also had Ashley Mousseau and Charlotte Clark (a double each) along with Taylor Smith and Abby Aguinaga (a single apiece) reach the hitting column.
