High hopes for 2009 Spring Expo in Imlay

Home, garden & business show at high school this weekend

March 18, 2009
IMLAY CITY — It's not mere coincidence that the 2009 Spring Expo at Imlay City High School opens on the traditional first day of spring.

Organizers of the first-ever home, garden and business show this Saturday and Sunday (March 21-22), have integrated every fresh idea they can into making the event a success. And that includes timing it with the arrival of spring.

Rod Soule, Spring Expo promoter and owner of Custom Video Services, is enthused by the support shown for the event by local businesses. He said more than 35 local business owners and vendors have purchased space and will be displaying their services and wares at the show.

"It's been some work putting it together," said Soule, "but we've gotten tremendous response from the whole community. A lot of people in the business community have come forward in support of one another. There's a lot of positivity and excitement for this event."

Organizers have also received a big shot in the arm from some hometown corporate sponsors, including: Homer Concrete Products, Imlay City Ford and Milnes Chevrolet.

To create a family flavor, event planners have added music and karaoke by DJ/emcee Wayne Sutherby; magic shows and balloon animals by Oopsie Daisy; and a food concession sponsored by Imlay City High School's 2009 Project Graduation Committee. Food offerings will include pizza, hot dogs and soft drinks.

Admission is $5 per person and free to children 15 and under. Spring Expo hours are from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, March 21; and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.
