Lapeer East picks up a non-league victory versus Capac

CAPAC — Capac will take an 8-12 overall mark into Class B district play following a 49-33 setback to visiting non-conference varsity boys' basketball rival Lapeer East on Tuesday, March 3.

In Tuesday's encounter, Lapeer East jumped out to a 12-5 advantage after one quarter was history.

Lapeer East followed it up with a 16-12 second quarter edge.

That made it 28-17, Lapeer East, at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Capac bounced back with a 9-7 third quarter advantage.

That left Lapeer East holding a 35-26 edge at the 24-minute mark.

Lapeer East then outscored Capac 14-7 the rest of the way, assuring themselves of a 49-33 victory when the final second ticked off the clock.

Austin Green led Lapeer East with a 15-point performance.

Matt Burgess paced Capac with 10 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Josh Harvey (10 points) hit for double figures as well.

Capac had five other players reach the scoring column. Their remaining points went to Jon Botwin (five, including one field goal of the three-point variety), Joe Johnson (three), Mike Burgess and Jeramie Mirling (two each) along with Anthony Closurdo (one).
