DRYDEN — A 25-5 second quarter advantage propelled host Dryden to a convincing 60-41 victory over Memphis in a North Central Thumb League varsity boys' basketball contest last Thursday night.

When the action resumed, Memphis started to mount a comeback bid.

Aided by a 19-9 third quarter cushion, Memphis trimmed their deficit to 47-37 at the 24-minute mark.

Dryden then outscored Memphis 13-4 during the last eight minutes of play, putting the finishing touches on a 60-41 victory.

Evan Hazen (13 points), Geno Volante (12, including a pair of trifectas), Chad Butler (12, featuring one trey) and Doug Ladner (10, with one triple) proved Dryden's toughest players to contain. They were backed by Joe Battisti (seven points) along with Cody Paupert, Matt Lynch and Brandon Gierman (two apiece).

Hazen notched the top Dryden rebound total, pulling down.

In addition to those numbers, Hazen blocked three shots.

Dryden also received eight assists and six steals courtesy of Chad Butler.

James Durand paced Memphis that evening. Durand finished with 20 points, draining six triples along the way.
