Imlay City turns back Almont, 59-46, in BWAC boys' matchup

TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City turned back visiting Almont, 59-46, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball matchup last Friday night.

With the result, Imlay City goes to 13-5 and 10-4. Almont drops to 6-13 and 5-8.

In Friday's matchup, Almont and Imlay City ended the opening quarter with matching outputs of 18 points.

The second quarter saw Almont collect eight points, while Imlay City tallied seven.

That staked Almont to a 26-25 edge at the halftime break.

Following the intermission, Imlay City bounced back with a 19-13 third quarter advantage.

That made it 44-39, Imlay City, at the 24-minute mark.

Imlay City then outscored Almont 15-7 over the last eight minutes of action, good enough for a 59-46 win when the final buzzer sounded.

Alex Maldonado (23 points, including three field goals of the three-point variety) checked in with Imlay City's best offensive numbers. He was given assistance in the scoring department by Aaron Thompson (16 points, featuring a trey), Adam Van Dyk (10, with two triples), Darren Saunders (seven, including one trifecta) and Eric Harbin (a trey).

Ben McNally (13 points), Neal Zott (11, featuring a trey) and Dillon Melly (11) paced Almont with double figure outputs. Erik O'Connor and Jake McCarthy added nine and two points, respectively, to the Raiders' cause.
