Capac qualifies seven, Imlay five and Almont two on to the regionals

TRI-CITY AREA — Capac will send seven grapplers, Imlay City five and Almont two on to this Saturday's Division 3 individual wrestling regional hosted by Williamston High School.

They qualified with top-four weight class showings last Saturday at a Richmond High School-based district.

Matt Schuman and Brandon Lossing led Capac with seconds. Schuman reached the 103-pound title clash where he was pinned by Richmond's Casey Martin with 2:56 elapsed and Lossing advanced to the championship encounter at 160 pounds where he dropped an 11-9 overtime verdict to Richmond's Roger Crump.

Brian Kulman, Ed Niemi, Thomas Bolday and Shawn Kaiser gave Capac thirds that day. Kulman gained admittance to the 140-pound consolation final where he pinned Madison Heights Lamphere's Kevin Denmark with 2:57 gone, Niemi reached the consolation final at 171 pounds where he pinned Livonia Clarence-ville's Derek Robbins with 4:49 gone; Bolday advanced to the 189-pound consolation final where he earned a 15-0 win against Mount Clemens foe David Zinzer; and Kaiser gained admittance to the consolation final at 215 pounds where picked up a 5-0 victory over Madison Heights Madison's Corey Kenny.

Pat White, Capac's heavyweight, added a fourth that day. White was pinned with 1:40 gone in his consolation clash versus Imlay City's Josh Timmer.

Kevin Ahrens paced Imlay City with a second. Ahrens reached the 140-pound title clash where he dropped a 9-7 overtime verdict to Richmond's Brian Henke.

Josh Timmer had the next best Imlay City showing, acquiring a third. Timmer advanced to the consolation final at heavyweight where he pinned Capac's Pat White with 1:40 gone.

Josh Scillian, Mike Galanos and Nick Nivison tacked on fourths to Imlay City's cause. Scillian gained admittance to the consolation final at 103 pounds where he dropped a 6-5 verdict to Armada's Steven Ireland; Galanos reached the 112-pound consolation final where he was pinned by Richmond's Grant Haffner with 1:33 elapsed; and Nivison advanced to the consolation final at 140 pounds where he dropped a 4-2 verdict to Armada's Tyler Girten.

Dylan Creger and Nick Vassallo supplied the best Almont showings, each collecting a third. Creger reached the 125-pound consolation final where he pinned Livonia Clarence-ville's Jake Ruth with 2:07 gone and Vassallo pinned Richmond's Austin Kratt 54 seconds into their consolation final at 135 pounds.
