Capac rallies to give Almont a 50-44 loss
February 25, 2009TRI-CITY AREA — Capac battled their way back from a 34-22 deficit to claim a 50-44 win against visiting Almont in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball matchup on Tuesday, February 17.
With the result, Capac improves to 7-9 and 5-6. Almont drops to 5-11 and 4-6.
In Tuesday's matchup, Almont grabbed an 11-9 edge after one quarter was complete.
Quarter number two saw Almont net six points, while Capac generated five.
That staked Almont to a 17-14 lead at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Almont established even more breathing room.
Aided by a 17-8 run covering a 7:43 stretch, Almont opened up a 34-22 cushion with 17 seconds showing on the third quarter clock.
It looked as if Almont would prevail going away, but Capac had other ideas.
On the ensuing possession, Capac's Jon Botwin drained a buzzer-beating attempt from trifecta territory. That made it 34-25, Almont, with 24 minutes into the record books.
The fourth quarter would see Capac continue to rally.

It was there Capac scorched the twines for 25 points, while allowing Almont 10.
That enabled Capac to claim a 50-44 win at night's end.
Botwin finished with 20 points, including two trifectas, to lead Capac. All but two of his points came after halftime.
Capac had five other players connect. Their ranks consisted of Mitchell Parks (10 points), Josh Messner (eight, featuring a pair of treys), Joe Johnson (seven, with a triple), Matt Burgess (four, including a trifecta) and Mike Burgess (one).
Ben McNally paced Almont with 16 points. Neal Zott (12 points, featuring a trey) hit for double figures as well. The remaining Raider points went to Eric O'Connor (nine, with a triple), Dillon Melly (five) and Aaron May (two).
