ATTICA TWP. — Work on the township's new post office at Lake Pleasant Rd. and Imlay City Rd. (M-21) is underway, with a tentative completion date set for June 1.
Attica Postmaster Denise Silvernale said the new 1,985-square-foot building will better serve customers and postal employees.
Approved for construction by the U.S. Postal Service last fall, the brick-sided structure will feature handicap access, a loading dock, circular driveway, 24-hour P.O. box access and expanded parking — including two handicapped spaces.
Work has begun on a new post office for Attica residents. Once completed, the new office will feature more parking and a more efficient work environment for employees. The post office currently serves 2,500 rural customers. photo by Tom Wearing.
"Parking for our customers has always been a problem," said Silvernale, who has served as Attica's postmaster for the past four years. "This is going to make a big difference for us. And it will solve our parking problem."
While light on amenities, Silvernale said the new post office will be set up for greater efficiency and improved working conditions.
Because of the four-way stop at Lake Pleasant Rd. and M-21, access to the post office will be from N. Lake Pleasant Rd.
Silvernale said the Attica Post Office currently serves about 2,500 rural customers. The staff consists of 10 full- and part-time employees, including the postmaster position.
