February 18, 2009 CAPAC — Matt Burgess scorched the twines for 27 points, including five field goals of the three-point variety, to lead visiting Capac to a 52-47 road win against Richmond in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys' basketball confrontation on Tuesday, February 11.
With the outcome, Capac moves to 6-8 and 4-5. Richmond falls to 12-4 and 6-3.
In Tuesday's confrontation, Capac bolted out to a 15-5 advantage after one quarter was complete.
The second quarter saw Richmond net 14 points and Capac generate two.
That made it 19-17, Richmond, at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Capac bounced back with an 18-9 third quarter edge.
That staked Capac to a 35-28 advantage with 24 minutes into the record books.
Richmond then outscored Capac 19-17 from that point on, only to fall by a 52-47 count when the final buzzer sounded.
Josh Messner proved Capac's second most productive scorer that evening. Messner wound up with 11 points, featuring a pair of treys. The Chiefs also had Michell Parks (seven points), Jon Botwin (four, with a triple) and Joe Johnson (three) connect.
Capac also received 11 rebounds and five blocked shots courtesy of Burgess.
Matt Pozolo led Richmond with 12 points. Josh Queen added 10 points, including three trifectas to the Blue Devils' cause.
