Spartans outlast Raiders, 48-46
February 11, 2009TRI-CITY AREA — Imlay City outlasted host Almont, 48-46, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity girls' basketball battle that required one overtime to determine a victor on Tuesday, February 3.
With the decision, Imlay City raises its mark to 4-8 and 2-5. Almont drops to 5-7 and 4-3.
In Tuesday's battle, Imlay City and Almont concluded the initial quarter with matching 12-point outputs.
Quarter number two saw Almont collect 12 points, while holding Imlay City to seven.
That made it 24-19, Almont, at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Almont widened the gap some.
Thanks to a 13-11 edge there, Almont took a 37-30 cushion with 24 minutes into the record books.
Imlay City then bounced back with a 12-5 fourth quarter advantage.
That made it a 42-42 ballgame at the conclusion of regulation play.
The opening 1:33 of overtime would belong to Imlay City.

Aided by a 5-0 edge there, Imlay City took a 47-42 advantage with 2:27 to play.
It looked as though Imlay City would pull away for the win, but Almont had other ideas.
Almont gradually whittled away at their deficit, closing the gap to 48-45 with 50 seconds remaining.
Forty nine ticks later, Imlay City intentionally fouled Almont in a bid to prevent a game-tieing triple.
That sent Almont's Dani Reid to the foul-line for a pair of free throw atempts. She took a deep breath, eyed the target and connected on her initial attempt.
Imlay City then called a timeout, hoping to ice her.
When the action resumed, Reid intentionally missed the shot. It was pulled down by teammate Tasha Evans, who promptly tried to convert the rebound.
Her effort hit the rim and fell out. Imlay City had held on for a 48-46 win against Almont.
Anne Pawlaczyk led Imlay City with 16 points, including a pair of trifectas. The Spartans also had Brianna Jackman (nine points, featuring three treys), Kali Van Dyk (eight), Taelor Webb (five), Millie Velez (four) along with Taylor Palermo, Kelsey Bosch and Taylor Lee (two apiece).
Nikki Heim (13), Evans (11) and Taylor Dziewit (10) paced Almont with double digit point outputs. The Raiders also received points courtesy of Katie Porter (eight points, with one triple), Megan May (two) along with Jessica Collins and Reid (one each).
