Sabatino's free throw lifts Capac over Cros-Lex, 42-41

CAPAC — Gabby Sabatino converted a free throw attempt with 3.9 seconds remaining, lifting host Capac to a dramatic 42-41 victory over Cros-Lex in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity girls' basketball battle last Friday night.

With the result, Capac raises its mark to 2-10 and 1-5.

In Friday's battle, Capac jumped out to an 18-12 advantage after one quarter was complete.

The next eight-minute stretch saw Cros-Lex tally 10 points, while allowing Capac six.

That made it 24-22, Capac, at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Cros-Lex struck with a 13-6 third quarter advantage.

That staked Cros-Lex to a 35-30 cushion with 24 minutes elapsed.

Capac then put together a 12-6 fourth quarter rally, capped off by Gabby Sabatino's successful foul shot 3.9 seconds from the finish, to pull out a 42-41 victory.

Jennica Polzin paced Capac with 16 points, including one field goal of the three-point variety. Gabby Sabatino (14 points) hit for double figures as well. The Chiefs also received points courtesy of Ashley Mousseau (six), Taylor Sinda (four) and Gianna Sabatino (two).

Sinda (nine) and Gabby Sabatino (seven) furnished the highest Capac rebounding totals.

Jacqueline VanDerGraff and Amanda Kalso proved the toughest Cros-Lex players to contain. They tossed in 16 and 12 points, respectively.
