Marlette deals Capac a consolation loss

CAPAC — Host Marlette made Capac absorb a 53-27 loss in the consolation game of the First Harry C. Moore Classic Girls' Varsity Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, December 30.

With the decision, Capac slips to 1-6 thus far this season.

In Tuesday's game, Marlette bolted out to a 14-6 advantage after one quarter was complete.

Quarter number two would see Marlette widen the gap.

Aided by an 11-3 advantage there, Marlette took a 25-9 lead at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Marlette continued to pull away.

Thanks to a 15-9 third quarter cushion, Marlette raised its lead to 40-18 at the 24-minute mark.

Marlette then outscored Capac 13-9 from that point on, putting the finishing touches on a 53-27 win.

Amara Wilson (27 points, including a trifecta) proved Marlette's toughest player to stop. Jenna Thompson (six, featuring a pair of treys) and Kim Baize (six) supported her performance.

Jennica Polzin (seven points, with a triple) and Taylor Sinda (seven) paced Capac. Their remaining points went to Kaylee Green (five, including a trifecta), Ashley Mousseau (four) along with Jamie Green and Nina Dalecki (two each).

Mousseau and Dalecki tacked on Capac's highest rebounding totals. They pulled down five missed shots apiece.

All-Tournament team - Kristen Greene, Brown City; Michelle Burgess, Brown City; Taylor Sinda, Capac; Amara Wilson, Marlette; Jenna Thompson, Marlette; and Rayenne Kaiser, North Branch.
