Heim hits for 28 as Almont upends Dryden
December 17, 2008TRI-CITY AREA — Nikki Heim (28, including three trifectas) and Tasha Evans (10) combined for 38 points as Almont handed host Dryden a 48-34 setback in a non-league varsity girls' basketball confrontation on Tuesday, December 9.
With the final, Almont improves to 1-2 overall. Dryden slips to 1-2 this season.
In Tuesday's confrontation, Almont jumped out to a 12-0 advantage with 6:16 elapsed.
The remainder of quarter number one saw Dryden collect two points, while allowing Almont none.
That made it 12-2, Almont, at the eight-minute mark.
Quarter number two would see Almont add to its cushion.
Aided by a 13-9 edge there, Almont took a 25-11 lead at the halftime break.
When the action resumed, Almont struck for a 9-6 third quarter advantage.
That staked Almont to a 34-17 cushion at the 24-minute mark.
It appeared the outcome was no longer up for grabs, but Dryden had other ideas.

Down but not out, Dryden came out strong to start the fourth quarter.
It was there Dryden put together an 11-3 run covering a 3:30 span, whittling their deficit to 37-28 with 4:30 to play. However, that would prove as close as the Cardinals got.
Almont made sure of that, responding with an 11-6 advantage the rest of the way to close out a 48-34 win.
Besides the aforementioned duo, Almont had three other players reach the scoring column. Their ranks consisted of Katie Porter (six points) along with Dani Reid and Jessica Moceri (two each).
For Dryden, Sarah DeCeuninck's 15-point efffort set the pace. Their remaining points went to Angie Kopas (eight), Lynsey Marchwinski (four), Maddy Couch (a triple) along with Cortney Lowney and Hillary Mason (two apiece).
DeCeuninck (11) and Kopas (eight) posted Dryden's top rebound totals. Lowney made her presence felt as well, grabbing six missed shots.
Mason (three) and Marchwinski (two) paced Dryden as far as steals were concerned.
Marchwinski (three) notched the highest Dryden assist total.
Dryden also received three blocked shots courtesy of Kopas.
