Capac gives coach a debut win, 44-39

CAPAC — Capac gave coach Bob Shoemaker a successful debut as its varsity boys' basketball coach, earning a 44-39 road win at Lutheran North's expense in a non-conference game on Tuesday, December 9.

It was the season-opener for both ballclubs.

In Tuesday's game, Capac spotted Lutheran North a 16-9 lead after one quarter had ended.

Quarter number two saw Capac net 10 points and Lutheran North manage four.

That left Lutheran North holding a precarious 20-19 edge at the halftime break.

The third quarter would see Lutheran North and Capac toss in eight points apiece.

That made it 28-27, Lutheran North, at the 24-minute mark.

Capac then outscored Lutheran North 17-11 during the last eight minutes of action, good enough for a 44-39 win at night's end.

For Capac, Rick Jones proved the toughest player to contain. Jones deposited 19 points through the twines, draining five triples along the way. The Chiefs also had Matt Burgess (eight points), Josh Harvey (five), Josh Messner (a trifecta), Robert James (three) along with Joe Johnson, Tanner Turnbull and Anthony Closurdo (two each) connect.
