Imlay City protects homecourt, winning 56-46 over Brown City

IMLAY CITY — A 22-10 advantage during the last eight minutes of action lifted host Imlay City past Brown City, 56-46, in a non-league varsity boys' basketball confrontation last Friday night.

With the decision, Imlay City moves to 2-0 this season. Brown City falls to 1-1 overall.

In Friday's confrontation, Brown City jumped out to a 12-8 lead after one quarter had ended.

Quarter number two saw Imlay City manage 14 points, while allowing Brown City 12.

That trimmed Brown City's lead to 24-22 at the halftime break.

The third quarter saw things stay close. It was there both teams hit for 12 points.

That made it 36-34, Brown City, at the 24-minute mark.

Imlay City then outscored Brown City 22-10 the rest of the way, assuring themselves of a 56-46 win at night's end.

Adam Van Dyk (13 points, featuring a trey), Steve Lesniak (12) and Alex Maldonado (10, with a pair of triples) proved Imlay City's toughest players to stop. The Spartans also received points courtesy of Darren Saunders (nine, including a trifecta), Brad Kramek (five, featuring a trey), Blaine Goertler (a triple) along with Eric Ebert and Aaron Thompson (two apiece).

A.J. Burton led Brown City with 28 points. He hit one trifecta en route. Jack McPhail added 11 points, featuring a trey, to the Green Devils' cause.
