TRI-CITY AREA — The Summitt Sports Club boys' varsity soccer team, which is comprised of homeschooled players from throughout Southeastern Michigan, won the National Homeschool Championship recently.

The tournament was contested at the Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne University Complex October 31 and November 1 in Indiana.

"The team really came together over the last month," Summitt Sports Club Coach Keith Kauzlarich, who hails from Almont, said. "After a couple of tough midseason losses (a 1-0 setback to Oakland Christian, the Division 4 state champs), we really picked up the pace and came back to win our last 10 games in a row," he noted.

Summitt defeated teams from Virginia, Indiana and Michigan plus registered a 2-0 championship match triumph against an undefeated squad hailing from Green-ville, South Carolina to lock up a number one showing at the tournament. It marked the school's first national title in the sport.
