Almont boys, girls claim fifths at final BWAC Jamboree Meet

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont, Capac and Imlay City boys' cross country teams turned in respective showings of fifth, sixth and eighth at the third and final Blue Water Area Conference Jamboree Meet on Tuesday, October 14.

Goodells County Park is where the action unfolded.

When the final standings were announced, Cros-Lex (60 points) earned the distinction of meet champion. They were followed by Algonac (85 points), Richmond (86), Armada (92), Almont (116), Capac (121), Yale (135) and Imlay City (209).

Don Tobias, fourth, 17:00; led Almont that day. The Raiders also counted results from Stephen Savonne, 26th, 18:35; Joel Bock, 27th, 18:41; James Strachan, 28th, 18:52; and Cody Corbin, 31st, 19:22.

Rick Jones, ninth, 17:34; proved Capac's pacesetter. Chris Paluch, 17th, 18:04; Gideon Gaiter, 21st, 18:15; Shane O'Connor, 29th, 18:54; and Joe Cutino, 45th, 20:15; rounded out the Chiefs' top-five.

Kevin Ahrens, 14th, 17:57; logged the swiftest Imlay City time. The Spartans also counted results from Mark VanDenBerg, 46th, 20:31; Jeff Frendo, 47th, 20:47; Nick Overland, 49th, 20:56; and Jesse Webb, 53rd, 23:37.

In the girls' portion of the meet, Almont pulled up fifth. Imlay City and Capac ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.

Cros-Lex's 55-point total set the pace. Richmond (72 points), Algonac (75), Yale (97), Almont (109), Armada (150), Imlay City (158) and Capac (206) gave chase.

Marie Burkland, second, 19:35; supplied the quickest Almont clocking. Lauren Deneweth, fourth, 20:08; Carlie Lawrence, 11th, 21:21; Justina Gottler, 43rd, 24:52; and Deniz Kyte, 49th, 25:53.

Mikayla Pardon, eighth, 20:40; led Imlay City that day. The Spartans also counted results from Sarah Bennett, 33rd, 23:19; Taylor Lee, 34th, 23:34; Autumn Carden, 39th, 24:30; and Kali Van Dyk, 44th, 24:57.

Ashley Callewaert, 31st, 23:02; checked in with Capac's swiftest time. Kylie Miller, 32nd, 23:06; Kaitlin Miller, 46th, 25:16; Katie Schmidt, 47th, 25:36; and Meghan Hull, 50th, 26:29; rounded out the Chiefs' top-five.
