Imlay girls fifth, Capac boys sixth

September 10, 2008TRI-CITY AREA — The Capac, Imlay City and Almont boys' cross country squads logged respective showings of sixth, seventh and eighth last Wednesday at the Brown City Invitational.
Cros-Lex (44 points) was the team champion. They were followed by Marysville (111 points), Lapeer East (117), Yale (134), Brown City (177), Capac (178), Imlay City (203), Almont (204), Ubly (207), Richmond (227), Marlette (241) and Bad Axe (259).
North Branch also participated but did not field a complete lineup.
Rick Jones led Capac that day. His clocking of 20:09.2 paid off with a ninth.
Capac also counted results from Gideon Gater, 31st; Shane O'Connor, 36th; Chris Paluch, 42nd; and Tyler Glombowski, 76th.
Kevin Ahrens, 11th, 20:14; proved Imlay City's pacesetter. Noah Bennett, 40th; Rick Davis, 46th; Mark VanDenBerg, 60th; and Alan Manjarrez, 62nd; rounded out the Spartans' top-five.
For Almont, James Strachan checked in with the best performance. He stopped the watch at 20:54 en route to a 26th.
Almont also counted results from Stephen Savonne, 30th; Joel Bock, 52nd; Don Tobias, 53rd; and David Burkland, 55th.
In the girls' portion of the meet, Imlay City paced the Tri-City contingent on hand. They tallied 188 points, paving the way to a fifth.
Marysville topped the standings with 67 points. Yale (81 points), Cros-Lex (84), Lapeer East (133), Imlay City (188), North Branch (206) and Capac (451) held down places two through seven.
Almont, Brown City, Marlette, Richmond, Bad Axe and Ubly also sent runners to the starting-line but did not field a complete team.
Mandy Lacertosa, fifth, 23:03; led Imlay City that day. She was backed by Makayla Pardon, 26th; Sarah Bennett, 44th; Taylor Lee, 46th; and Kali Van Dyk, 68th.
Ashley Callewaert, 72nd, 29:12.85; paced Capac. The Chiefs also counted results from Kylie Miller, 73rd; Kaitlynn Miller, 99th; Renee Crane, 103rd; and Katie Schmidt, 104th.
Marie Burkland paced Almont's three-runner contingent. Burkland stopped the watch at 21:41.88 on the way to a second.
Lauren Deneweth, fourth; and Carlie Lawrence, 39th; also represented Almont that day.
